City Councillor, Eastern Ward, Wellington, New Zealand
Thanks to you
To everyone in Wellington's wonderful Eastern Ward thanks for voting me onto the Wellington City Council.
I have been listening to your concerns and ideas with respect and an open mind. I'm pleased that in many instances I have been ablde to assist. Above all I do relish positive ideas that will help the capital continue to grow vigorously.
Wellington Issues
Traffic:
State Highway 1 traffic to and from our international airport through the eastern suburbs is bad and forecast to get worse. The Mount Victoria tunnel was built to cope with traffic 80 years ago. The proposed Ngauranga to Airport roading project is a "must have" to provide a bettwer route for public transport, cars, trucks, cyclists and pedestrians.
I support the progress in these major roading projects, I want to drive into town with minimal delay, bike in without fear of being bowled off and walk through the tunnel without being deafened and gassed.
Toward 2040: Smart Green Wellington
This plan is the big one for Wellington Council planning into the future. It details what we think we need to do as a city to make sure we stay ahead of the game and the city continues to thrive. All council strategies will be guided by this plan so it needs your input!! I feel that it covers some areas well but in others I reckon there's still work to do, that is why I am keen for you to have your say. www.wellington2040.co.nz
Wellington's Economy
To me, everything you and I want for this city germinates in a garden fertilised by economic success. No matter if it's light rail, late nights in the library, free weekend parking or sponsorship for your school sports team, if Wellington's business sector is weak, funding support dries up. Wellington must promote itself as business friendly and our city council must live and breathe this ethos. Council needs to work at removing barriers that hinder business, particularly small-medium businesses.
You:
I realise that there are other issues and ideas that you would like to share, I would be interested to hear them so please email me simon@swampymarsh.co.nz
Who Is Simon “Swampy” Marsh?
Swampy has been a voice of Wellington radio for many years, he was one of the original owners of MoreFM and now together with partner Chrissie Drader runs the successful radio advertising business, www.radioadvertising.co.nz.
Simon and Chrissie and son Sam are Miramar Peninsular locals. He buys his lotto ticket at the Strathmore Four Square, Sam has gone to school locally, the family relaxes in the cafes, cycle around the bays and walk the dog along Worser Bay. Swampy still has not caught a snapper off Miramar wharf but that’s not an issue, the new tunnel is.
What has he done ?
Swampy has been a communicator, using his abilities to assist both large and small Wellington businesses to grow and become more successful.
Along with his years as a voice on Wellington Radio, Swampy has given freely of his business skills and voice to the community. He has involved himself with Enterprise Miramar Peninsula, Wellington City Mission, Te Omanga Hospice, and Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal, as a board member of Autism NZ, the local school gala committee and as a Trustee on the Wellington Museums Trust Board and Wellington Zoo Board.
Now he feels that The Eastern Ward needs better representation on the Wellington City Council. It needs new blood, fresh ideas, fresh skills, and a new voice. Swampy’s voice.
A quick survey
Q: Do you support an additional Mount Vic. Tunnel?
This will ease the traffic congestion and provide an improved thoroughfare for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
Please go to the "Get in touch with Swampy" box below and let me know YES/NO/I NEED MORE INFO and the suburb you live in.
